Where to begin? Derek is one of Britain’s most prolific stage actors and a founding member of the National Theatre. Derek has twice been the recipient of an Olivier Award, the first for his portrayal of Cyrano de Bergerac, and the second for his Malvolio in Twelfth NightOn top of that, Derek received a Tony for Much Ado About Nothing. Stage work aside, Derek has also played a range of television roles including the titular role in Cadfael, Alan in Last Tango in Halifax and recently Edward VIII in Netflix’s The CrownDerek’s film roles include Henry V, Gosford Park, The King’s Speech and My Week with Marilyn. No wonder he was awarded a knighthood.
