BBC Commentator John Motson has sometimes been dubbed “The Voice of Football”.
He joined the then Radio Two in September 1968, and celebrates 50 unbroken years of service to the BBC this year. John moved from radio to television’s Match of the Day in 1971 and rose to public recognition when he commentated on one of the greatest “giantkillings” in the history of the F.A.Cup when he landed non league Hereford United’s replay victory over mighty Newcastle United in February 1972. Since then, he has been at the microphone for ten World Cups, ten European Championships, 29 FA Cup Finals and over 150 England games as well as appearing every Saturday of the season on “Match of the Day”.
He retires from the BBC at the end of the football season May 2018 after 50 years of commentating and will be available for voice work.
