Freema Agyeman is an English actress who is known for playing Martha Jones in the BBC science fiction series Doctor Who and it’s spin-off series Torchwood. More recently she held a regular role in the Netflix Original drama Sense8 playing Amanita Caplan. Following her departure from Doctor Who, and subsequent appearances in the BBC programmes Little Dorrit & Survivors, Agyeman held a starring role as Crown Prosecutor Alesha Phillips in the crime procedural drama Law & Order: UK between 2009 and 2012. In 2013, she made her US television debut on The CW’s ‘Sex and the City’ prequel The Carrie Diaries as Larissa Loughlin, a style editor at Interview magazine. Other television appearances include Silent Witness and two seasons of Old Jack’s Boat for CBeebies. Agyeman also appeared as assassin Penny in the 2015 independent film North v South, which earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the National Film Awards in 2016.
